1. She moved to Porto, Portugal to teach English when she was 26 years old. She met her Portuguese husband Jorge Arantes and married after 18 months in Porto. The couple divorced after a year because of domestic abuse.

2. She wrote a major part of Harry Potter when she had her mornings free working as an English teacher in Portugal. She enjoyed teaching and her students used to make jokes about her last name, calling her “Rolling stone”

3.Instead of using her full name to publish, JK Rowling used two initials to hide the fact that the book was written by a woman because her publisher said the target audience of the book would be boys. As she had no middle name, she used her grandmother’s name (Kathleen) as the second initial of her pen name.

4.Her Harry Potter book series have broke Guinness World Records for being the best-selling book series for children of all time, having sold 500 million copies. The last four Harry Potter books are the fastest-selling book in history, having sold 11 million copies in the first day of release in the UK and the USA.

5.the manuscript of her first book was rejected by 12 publishing houses before it was accepted by Bloomsbury. Their decision to publish Harry Potter owes to the chairman’s 8-year-old daughter, who demanded to read the next chapter after reviewing the first one.

6.When her manuscript for Harry Potter was first accepted in 1996, her editor asked her to get a day job saying that she had little chance in making money in selling children’s books. In 2004, Forbes named her as the first person to become a US-dollar billionaire by writing books.
